ICAIRE, together with UNESCO and IRCAI, is co-organizing a research workshop at the Global Forum on the Ethics of AI (GFEAI) 2026, to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 14–17 September 2026.
To mark the fifth anniversary of UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, we invite scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and students to submit research engaging critically with the Recommendation's implementation since its 2021 adoption. Topics of interest include: how the Recommendation has been put into practice across different contexts and geographies, including through tools such as the AI Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) and the Ethical Impact Assessment (EIA); the role of multilateralism, international cooperation, and multi-stakeholder partnerships in shaping coherent and inclusive AI governance; how the Recommendation's values and principles have been operationalized in the design, development, deployment, and governance of AI; the adaptability of its policy areas to new technological realities, including across environment, gender, culture, education, health and well-being, and communication and information; and forward-looking approaches to the future of ethical AI governance.
